Strong Bones - Strong Bones is brought to you by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. If you think your kids need milk to grow strong bones, it's time for a second opinion. A comprehensive review article published in Pediatrics in 2005 showed that getting extra calcium - from milk or anything else - makes no difference in bone density in children or young adults. And evidence shows that dairy product consumption contributes to obesity, ear infections, constipation, respiratory problems, heart disease, and some cancers. A major study shows that the amount of calcium girls consumed during the teen years had no impact on bone strength.

Marin Vegetarian Education Group - A non-profit organization offering Information, Resources, Motivation and Support for Plant-based eating. A project of the Veg News Network. (Based in Marin County, California)

San Francisco Vegetarian Society - A non-profit organization that has been working in the Bay Area for over 40 years promoting a vegetarian diet as a healthful and humane way of life.

Bay Area Vegetarians - (BAVeg) is a San Francisco Bay Area wide group for vegan, vegetarian and animal rights folks to connect and find support with like-minded folks. We invite you to be an active part of our community.

Vegetarian Society of Hawaii - A not for profit volunteer organization founded in 1990 to promote health, animal rights and protection of the environment by means of vegetarian education. Once a month guest speakers present a lecture or cooking demo. Lectures are free and open to the public. Watch VSH lectures on line.

EarthSave International - "EarthSave is a non-profit organization that educates, inspires and empowers people to shift toward a plant-based diet and to take compassionate action for all life on earth."

The Vegetarian Resource Group - "The VRG is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public on vegetarianism and the interrelated issues of health, nutrition, ecology, ethics, and world hunger." Their website contains vegetarian and vegan: recipes, nutrition information, cookbooks, Vegetarian Journal excerpts, travel information and a game.

Veg Source - An online magazine with articles on nearly every topic discussed in The Food Revolution, thousands of healthy recipes, book reviews, and articles on the environment by many of the top experts in the field of vegetarian living. You can read up on scientific research and lifestyle issues, and you will find personal support from award-winning chefs, top medical doctors, and best-selling authors.

Vegetarians in Paradise - A Los Angeles Vegetarian Monthly Web Magazine. School Nutrition Education

CHOICE (Consumers for Healthy Options in Children's Education) - The CHOICE program is an online resource to help students, parents, teachers, school officials and concerned citizens bring healthy, plant-based lunch options to their school. There is access to a 15 minute film presentation, "Impact of Fresh Healthy Food on Learning and Behavior 2004", which contains interviews with a principal, teacher, police and students at Appleton, WI Alternative School.

The Healthy School Lunch Campaign, sponsored by the Physicians for Responsible Medicine is dedicated to improving the food served to children in schools by educating government and school officials, food service workers, parents, and others about the food choices best able to promote children's current and long-term health. The campaign's key message: Foods served in schools should promote the health of all children.
Menus in most school lunch programs are too high in saturated fat and cholesterol and too low in fiber- and nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. Major changes are needed to encourage the health of the nation's youth and to reverse the growing trends of obesity, early-onset diabetes, and hypertension, among other chronic diseases, in children and teens.

The Food Studies Institute (FSI) is devoted to changing the health destinies of children through proper nutrition and education. This has been the life-long work of Dr. Antonia Demas whose groundbreaking curriculum, Food is Elementary, educates children about nutrition by providing a positive experience of food and food preparation that is fun, hands-on and sensory-based.
